Since most eczema manifests as an inflammation of underlying skin tissue, topical medication have difficulty in penetrating the epidermis, usually comprised of dead skin cells, except through the open skin pores. However, it is possible that the inflammation will cause the pores to close. Thus, use of skin penetrators like Dimethyl Sulfoxide can be an alternative to oral medication.
